How to Measure Windows for Curtains

Steps

  1. Decide the track position: ceiling fix or face fix above the frame.
  2. Measure the track length, including stack-back each side.
  3. Measure the drop from the track to the finish point at the left, centre and right. Record the shortest for a floor-length curtain.
  4. Note the finish: floor, puddle, or sill.
  5. Note obstructions: air conditioners, cornices, power points, skirting.
  6. Photograph and mark up the wall.

Frequently asked
questions

How wide should a curtain track be?

Wider than the window so the stacked curtain clears the glass. Agree stack-back with the customer and your workroom.

Do I measure from the rod or the ceiling?

From the track or rod position, since that is where the curtain hangs.

Can I measure for curtains and blinds in one visit?

Yes. Record both under the same room so the report shows them together. Type a label such as "Track" on the confirm card to tell them apart.
