Apps Privacy Policy
This notice explains how Systemic Studios mobile apps handle information. The legal entity behind Systemic Studios is Ashira Holdings Pty Ltd, ABN 66 164 163 188, based in Ocean Reef, Western Australia. The website is covered in our website privacy notice.
On your device
An app may use information already on your phone, such as location or compass heading, to do its job. Where that can be worked out on the device, it stays there. We don’t sell personal information.
What we receive
If an app does not ask you to sign in, we don’t get an account from it. If you email support@systemicstudios.com about an app, we get what you send so we can reply. We don’t sell that either.
Tower Aim
Tower Aim is a mobile app for pointing an outdoor TV antenna at broadcast towers. It uses your location and compass, and map-related data, to recommend nearby free-to-air transmitters and show a bearing. The compass aim and the bearing are worked out on the phone. Tower Aim does not ask you to create an account, does not show ads, does not include analytics or advertising tools, and does not track you across other apps or websites. We don’t sell personal information.
This section applies in every region where we release Tower Aim.
What stays on your phone
- Location and compass. Used on the phone to find nearby transmitters, show the bearing and distance, and draw the terrain profile. Tower Aim does not keep a history of where you have been. If you choose a place by hand, that one place is saved on the phone until you switch back to GPS.
- Installer jobs. If you subscribe to Installer, your jobs, customer and site details, signal readings you type in, photos, notes, your logo and business details, and PDF reports are stored on your phone. Tower Aim does not upload them and we never see them unless you share them.
- Camera and photos. The camera is used for AR aim and for job photos. If you pick a photo from your library, only the photo you pick is copied into the job.
- Dictation. Speaking a job name, address or note uses your phone’s on-device speech recognition. Tower Aim does not record, keep or send the audio. If on-device recognition is not available for your language, Tower Aim does not offer dictation and you can type instead. (If you use your keyboard’s own dictation button instead, that is part of your phone’s keyboard, under Apple’s or Google’s terms.)
- PDF reports. A PDF is made on the phone. It only leaves the phone if you share it yourself, for example by email or a messaging app, and then it goes wherever you send it.
- Backups. Your jobs and photos can be included in your phone’s own backup (iCloud or Google), if you have backup turned on. That backup is held by Apple or Google under your account with them, not by us.
Maps and address lookup
- On iPhone, the map uses Apple Maps. On Android, map tiles are downloaded from OpenFreeMap, which sees your IP address and the map area being loaded, like any website.
- In an Installer job, if you tap Use my location for the job address, the app asks your phone’s built-in address lookup to suggest a street address. That sends the coordinate to Apple (on iPhone) or Google (on Android). Tower Aim does not run its own address lookup and does not store the result anywhere except in the job on your phone. You can type the address instead.
- On Android, AR aim runs on Google Play Services for AR (ARCore), which is provided by Google and governed by the Google Privacy Policy. Google collects some data through it, such as device identifiers and performance information. iPhone AR uses Apple’s on-device AR.
Installer subscription and purchases
Installer is an optional subscription bought through the App Store or, where available, Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment, and we never receive your card details. The app checks whether your subscription is active by asking the store on your phone. Tower Aim does not send your receipt or purchase details to our own servers. The last answer from the store is kept on the phone so Installer keeps working for a few days without a connection.
Terrain and region pack downloads
Detailed terrain maps (region packs, currently for Australia) are downloaded from our file storage on Microsoft Azure in Australia (Australia East). Like any download, the storage service sees your IP address and the time of the request. The app does not send your location, an account or any identifier with the download, and we don’t use the IP address to identify you or work out where you are. We do not turn on request logging for this storage, so we do not keep a lasting record of those download requests.
Neighbourhood Reports (optional)
You can share how your reception turned out, to help people nearby. Sharing is optional and Tower Aim works the same if you never share.
If you tap Share your result, the app sends:
- your rating (for example Good or Poor) and which transmitter you used,
- roughly where you are, rounded to about 1 km, and the country,
- any setup details you choose to add (antenna type, mast height, amplifier, number of TVs), and
- a random code made by the app on your phone, so you can change or delete your own reports later. It is not your name, an account or your phone’s identifier.
Reports do not include your name, account, email, exact location or phone identifier, and our server does not store your IP address. Other people only ever see a count, such as how many installs nearby rated a transmitter Good or better, never an individual report. While sharing is on, the app also sends the transmitter and your rounded area to fetch that count. Reports are stored on Microsoft Azure in Australia (Australia East).
You can delete your shared reports any time in Settings, under Delete my shared reports. Turning sharing off stops new reports. Deleting the app does not delete reports you already shared, so use Delete my shared reports first.
Email updates (optional)
You can ask for occasional Tower Aim tips and updates by email in Settings, under Keep up to date. This is optional and the app works fully without it.
You need to enter your email address and tick the box agreeing to receive emails. The box starts unticked. The app then sends your email address, the fact that you agreed, that the request came from the app, and the app version. It does not send your location, your jobs or a phone identifier.
We then send you a confirmation email with a link. You are only added to the list after you open that confirmation link. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
We store your email address, your sign-up status, when you agreed, when you confirmed, the app version and when you unsubscribed, on Microsoft Azure in Australia (Australia East). To stop abuse, the service also keeps a scrambled (one-way hashed) form of your IP address for about two days. Emails are sent using Microsoft Azure Communication Services, from support@systemicstudios.com (shown as "Tower Aim"). When you confirm, we also get a short note with your email address at support@systemicstudios.com so we know you joined. We use your email address only for Tower Aim tips and updates. We don’t share it with other businesses, use it for advertising by others, or sell it.
Who handles it
We use Microsoft Azure to store Neighbourhood Reports, email sign-ups and region pack files, and Microsoft Azure Communication Services to send emails. They process this information for us, under contract, and not for their own purposes. Apple and Google handle store purchases, and, where described above, maps, address lookup and Android AR, under their own terms.
How long we keep it
- Neighbourhood Reports. The random code is removed from a report 24 months after it was last updated. After that, the report is fully anonymous: the rating, transmitter, rounded area and setup details stay and still count, but they can no longer be linked to your phone, so Delete my shared reports can no longer remove them.
- Email updates. We keep your address while you are on the list. If you unsubscribe, we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so we don’t email you again. If you never confirm, we delete the unconfirmed request after 30 days and you are not added to the list. You can ask us to delete your address completely at any time.
- Emails to support. We keep emails sent to support@systemicstudios.com for 24 months.
- On your phone. Everything Tower Aim keeps only on your phone is removed when you delete the app or clear its data, except copies in your own phone backup.
Your choices and deletion
- Delete your shared reports: Settings, then Delete my shared reports.
- Stop emails: use the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your email address or anything else we hold: email support@systemicstudios.com.
Stores and the operating system
Apple and Google provide the app stores and the phone operating system. The store handles your download and, if you pay them, the payment. Location permission and similar system features are controlled by the phone. Their terms cover that. We don’t.
Access, correction, and deletion
If you want access to personal information we hold about you, or you want it corrected or deleted, email support@systemicstudios.com or write to Systemic Studios, Ocean Reef WA. We’ll deal with it as the Australian Privacy Principles require. Information an app keeps only on your phone is removed when you delete the app, or when you clear that app’s data in the phone settings.
